Basic Arabic Phrases
Umrah Guide: the basic rites

- Preparation
Before Traveling:
Prepare physically and spiritually, ensuring you know the steps of Umrah. Perform wudu (ablution) and wear clean, appropriate clothing.
At Miqat (Intention Point):
Enter the state of Ihram by wearing the Ihram garments (two white sheets for men, modest clothing for women). Declare your intention (niyyah) for Umrah by saying “Labbaik Allahumma Umrah.”
- Tawaf (Circumambulation)
Upon arrival at Masjid al-Haram, proceed to the Kaaba. Circle it seven times counterclockwise, starting from the Black Stone, reciting prayers and making supplications.
- Sa’i (Walking)
After Tawaf, perform Sa’i between Safa and Marwah hills seven times, beginning at Safa. Recite prayers or personal supplications.
- Halq/Taqsir (Hair)
Complete Umrah by cutting your hair (Taqsir for women, Halq—complete shave or cut—for men). This signifies the end of Ihram.
- Conclude with Prayer
Offer two units of prayer (rakats) near Maqam Ibrahim (if possible) and thank Allah for the completion of your Umrah.
